Hi! I'm Rhonda...The GOOD Influence - HER. What are safety needs? Maslow says safety needs are personal security, emotional security, financial security for your well-being. Manifestations of these are long-term employment such as job security, health insurance, savings or retirement accounts, disability policies; do you have these protections? The common theme is "security". What Maslow is saying is that we are living "insecure" lives. Are you one of those people whose paycheck is completely spent before the check is even printed and nothing goes into a saving account? Are you working a job that offers no health benefits or life insurance benefits? Are you in over your head and upside down in a 30-year mortgage? Ten years ago, my answer was yes to all of those questions.
In this episode, we continue on to discuss Level 2 "Safety Needs". I think you're going to instantly understand why creating and securing your safety needs propels you to the next level. I discovered the key to building level two was to consider my worth. I had to go from questioning "Am I worth it?" to "I am worth it!" For some reason, I accepted struggle as a part of my daily life. It seemed if I didn't struggle there was no value in the end prize. I can only describe it as some sort of melodramatic soap opera I was living. If I easily attained a goal it had less value than an accomplishment that I could live to tell about. I had to rewire my thinking to believe that "I am worthy". I read somewhere in one of Maya Angelou's books that "abundance is our birthright" and that was the concept I needed to claim and own if I was to build a solid Level 2 foundation.
